Every winter, thousands of humpback whales migrate to the warm, protected waters of Samaná Bay to mate and give birth. This annual gathering—from mid-January through mid-March—creates one of the world's most spectacular whale watching opportunities, and Las Terrenas is perfectly positioned to experience it.

Our whale watching excursions depart from Samaná town, just 45 minutes from Las Terrenas. Experienced captains know the bay intimately and follow responsible viewing guidelines to minimize disturbance to the whales while maximizing your viewing experience.

Humpback whales are incredibly active and entertaining—you'll likely see breaching, tail slapping, fin waving, and spy hopping.
